Fall

Day 1

Only one departure a week

Only one departure a week

First, you have to get into Tokyo to go to Chichijima.
Of course, it's not that there's a boat every day, but rather only once a week.
You should prepare to leave on the departure date.
Being prepared

Being prepared

The passenger terminal, which I stayed at, is within walking distance.
I came by bus because I had luggage.
If you're planning a trip to Chichijima, it's a good idea to choose accommodation near the passenger terminal.
Also, if you are prone to seasickness, please, please, please, please bring seasickness medicine and your boarding pass.
You can purchase it at the passenger terminal mart. Buy it and eat it right away.
Board the ship in numerical order.

Board the ship in numerical order.

This is my new favorite ferry since July this year.
Make sure to arrive at the passenger terminal ahead of time, where you can explore and purchase snacks before boarding the ship in numerical order.
Please manage your time well and come prepared.
Facilities on the Ogasawara Maru

Facilities on the Ogasawara Maru

My main concern before the trip was the 24-hour journey by ship, so I wondered about the facilities on board. I was worried, but wow~~ The facilities on the boat are awesome. It's really too good.
There are different cabin classes, but all cabin facilities are comfortable, including showers, washrooms, a dining area, and a lounge.
It's a space where you can create memories with a unique experience during the 24-hour journey!! Anyway, worries are over
The time went by faster than I thought

The time went by faster than I thought

About two hours after setting sail, I looked at my cell phone and realized that I couldn't use it.
We're on the ocean, so of course it's a given. I thought I'd take a picture of it anyway.
You can watch a movie on your computer or phone, or read a book,
You can just sleep, and 24 hours go by faster than you think.
Of course, if you get seasick, you'll feel like dying, so make sure to pack some motion sickness pills.
They also have a restaurant.

They also have a restaurant.

We had a quick dinner at a restaurant run on a schedule.
Don't worry, there's plenty of food on the menu.
You can purchase various types of cup noodles and snacks at the convenience store, so there should be no worries about eating.

Day 2

Sunrise on board

Sunrise on board

On board the boat, we gathered at the dining room at a time set by announcement, and we learned about Chichijima.
They also announce the time of the sunrise and explain on which side of the boat the sun will rise.
The sunrise on board is a unique experience and another memory.
Katsuodori

Katsuodori

And the flight attendant who explained about Chichijima yesterday is explaining again on the signboard. Especially as you get closer to Chichijima, you can see more of these brown bonito flakes (Katsuodori).
This bird does not inhabit South Korea but is primarily found in tropical coastal areas such as the Pacific and Indian Oceans, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. It was fascinating to see a bird I've never seen before.
It's nice because it's quiet even if you stay there all day.

It's nice because it's quiet even if you stay there all day.

I love how peaceful it is around here, just spending the whole day by the seaside with nothing but the coral reefs in front of our accommodation.
West Annex Hotel

West Annex Hotel

and here is the accommodation and room where I stayed in Chichijima.
It was a lodging that was exceptional in terms of location, facilities, and even the food.
I'll provide more details when I post about the accommodation later.
A day of thrilling travels.

A day of thrilling travels.

After investing a long time, the first day in Chichijima, I strolled around the area, had dinner at the accommodation, stopped by a bar for a sake, and thus concluded the exciting first day of the trip.

Morning and evening walks and time to myself on the observation deck

Morning and evening walks and time to myself on the observation deck

Before breakfast, I went up to the observation deck and enjoyed some time to myself.
If it weren't for meal times and tours, I would have loved to stay longer. It was a great place to stay.
Let's go for a boat tour!

Let's go for a boat tour!

After a delicious meal, we arrived at Futami Port using the tour shop's vehicle that we had reserved in advance yesterday.
Greetings to the fellow travelers joining us for the boat tour, let's have a great time!
The tour can be chosen between half-day or full-day options.
It rained until yesterday, but thankfully the weather is nice now, feeling upbeat
But I'm worried if we can complete all the planned activities due to the high waves.
Depending on the weather, the tour schedule may change day by day, so we need to rely on good weather luck.
While traveling by boat, we spotted some dolphins and immediately captured the moment.
That's when we can enjoy swimming with wild dolphins.
This is also possible for the fortunate ones, but it's mostly feasible in Chichijima.
The phrase 'half water, half fish' perfectly suits the scenery.

Indeed, being listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site,
the underwater world is incredibly clear and transparent, with an abundance of fish.
Spinner dolphins

Spinner dolphins

We also spotted spinner dolphins in the afternoon, following our morning encounter.
Spinner dolphins that inhabit the waters around Chichijima are called
because they are known for their spinning behavior.
We briefly watched the spinner dolphins' show
before diving in to swim alongside them
It was a missed moment for the action cam as we didn't have time to grab the equipment.
We swam with the dolphins for about 5 to 10 minutes, but unfortunately, we don't have any footage of that moment.
We met a turtle

We met a turtle

We encountered a turtle as we were finishing up all the boat tour activities.
In fact, we encountered the turtle several times, but it was difficult to capture a photo.
This one turned out to be the best picture among them.
Weather station

Weather station

After completing the tour schedule, we had free time until dinner in the evening
From the Oomura downtown area, it takes about 5 minutes by car or bike to reach there
We've arrived at Chichijima's best sunset spot, the 'Weather Station
We enjoyed Chichijima's sunset with many people.

We enjoyed Chichijima's intense sunset with many people, although it was a short time.
In fact, if I had just a bike, it would have been a place I'd want to come and enjoy every day.
Be sure to visit when you travel to Chichijima.

Trekking tour to Heart Rock

Trekking tour to Heart Rock

After yesterday's boat tour, today's trekking tour is an up-close-and-personal experience in the mountains of Chichijima.
For the trekking tour, long pants, long sleeves, and trekking shoes are recommended.
I wore shorts and long sleeves. Short sleeve shirts are fine, but pants are definitely recommended.
Be sure to go with an expert guide.

To trek in Chichijima, it's essential to go with an expert guide so
ask at the tour shop and use their services.

You can encounter fascinating flora and fauna along with traces of World War II.
Trekking in Chichijima is a tour worth trying along with the boat tour.
Lizards, which are protected species found only in Chichijima, are surprisingly very small.

Finally, the summit of Heart Rock is starting to come into view.

Finally, the ultimate destination, the summit of Heart Rock, is starting to come into view.
While there are no particularly difficult or dangerous terrains on the route, it's still challenging
It's not recommended for young children as it can be dangerous.
However, it's okay for elementary school students and older.
The scenery is absolutely stunning.

The view from the top of Heart Rock is absolutely stunning.
The volcanic terrain here is different from the soil we see in Korea
and the vegetation that grows here is also different.
A fantastic photo opportunity

We took some fantastic photos and enjoyed the scenery until the very end before descending.

I wanted to visit the 'Weather Station,' but I didn't have transportation, so I enjoyed the sunset from the terrace of the accommodation instead.
I considered walking there, but that seemed a bit... Nevertheless, I'm grateful that I could enjoy a beautiful sunset from the terrace.

Daily walks around Chichijima

Daily walks around Chichijima

It's already my last day in Chichijima.
I walked around Chichijima every day, and it's always a great place to go for a walk.
In particular, the white church right in front of my hostel is the Ogasawara Holy Josiji Church, which is said to hold many weddings.
There's also a post office and a variety of cafes, shops, restaurants, and tourist centers.
It's a great place to slow down and explore.
Most of all, I liked how quiet it was. ^^
Bonin Blue

Bonin Blue

Chichijima is also known as 'Bonin Blue.'
The reason is that it's named after the color of the sea, which is truly beautiful.
The Chichijima Coffee that I highly recommend when you visit Chichijima.

I had the famous shark burger at Heart Rock Village & Cafe along with my coffee.
The burger tasted like any other burger, but the coffee was really smooth and offered a variety of flavors, so it's definitely a thumbs up.
Arirang

Arirang

And there's a restaurant called 'Arirang' run by Koreans in Chichijima.
It's a place that's also introduced in the Chichijima guidebook, but I found out about it later.
So, I stopped by for lunch before leaving on the last day.
Actually, even though I ate a lot of delicious food, I missed kimchi. But, I could feel the taste of Korea here.
Also, you can hear stories about Chichijima in Korean. Haha, if I had known earlier, I would have come here more often, ordered tour lunches from here, and enjoyed both communication and delicious food. For those traveling to Chichijima, please keep in mind that there is a Korean restaurant called 'Arirang'.
I just captured it with my eyes.

I just captured it with my eyes.

After having our final meal at Arirang, we walked back to the accommodation, stopping by the beach again for a stroll along the way.
I saw some Japanese people picking up shells or corals, but I wasn't sure if it's okay to take them with you.
I wanted to pick them up since I had to take a plane, but I just admired them with my eyes.
Preserving the memories of a happy journey.

At the Futami Port passenger terminal in Chichijima, while stamping my passport…
I preserved the memories of my happy trip to Chichijima.
The farewell from the people of Chichijima.

Boarding the ship, receiving the farewell from the people of Chichijima on the deck.
Finishing the trip to Chichijima, which felt shorter than expected due to the enjoyment.
I also captured the performance on video, so I'll include it in my next post.
The highlight of the trip to Chichijima

The highlight of the trip to Chichijima

One of the highlights of the trip to Chichijima is the farewell given on the day of departure..
All the boats follow along and at the end, people dive from the boats to bid farewell.
It was truly a touching moment, filled with emotion.
Now it's time to say goodbye

Now it's time to say goodbye

The brown boobies (katsuodori) that accompanied us for a long time on the boat ride.
Now it's time to say goodbye. I hope we can meet again someday.
Time passed by even faster than I expected.

Time passed by even faster than I expected.

I enjoyed the wonderful scenery of Tokyo Port as I concluded my delightful trip to Chichijima.
I feel 24 hours passed faster on the return journey than it did on the way here.
