First Day

Walking around Hatonos

Walking around Hatonos

The first day of our multi-day trip was originally meant to be a relaxing one, as we had a long drive from the airport to get to our accommodation, but I'm a sucker for traveling and thought, when will I get to visit this beautiful place again? I just dropped off my luggage and headed out to explore.

The town is small, I could reach the sights in no time even if I walked slowly.

The capital of Japan, where trekking outfits are not out of place... You wouldn't expect to see something like this in the capital of any country, would you?

Hatonos is a city full of beautiful spots

It's a place where nature is still alive and full of charm... In fact, just one area of Hatonosu alone is filled with many such beautiful spots.

I spent the night at Hatonosuji Temple, a resort-style ryokan that was so neat and pretty that it didn't seem out of place in the countryside.

Meals at the Hatonosuji Temple

The dinners and breakfasts I had here were more westernized rather than local Japanese, but I was very pleased with the quality of the food, the decor, the service and the friendliness of the staff.
I'm more of a rice person than a bread person, but the bread given as the appetizer was so good that I had to get refills.

Okutama's big lake and dam…

Okutama's big lake and dam…

It's the morning of the second day! It was finally time to start our itinerary! Okutama has many attractions, one of which is the large lake and dam.
Ogochi Dam

Ogochi Dam

In fact, there are many dams and lakes in Korea as well, so it's not recommended to visit this place specifically from the city. However, if you plan to experience the charm of Okutama by visiting places like Hatonosu, the river, Mukiyamano Ukishashi, and Nippara Shonoo together, then you should consider visiting the place.
By the way, here is very important place where the water is purified and flows to Tokyo as drinking water

Ogochi Shrine… Both places are conveniently located near the lake, making it a great spot to visit at once.
The autumn scenery from the drum barrel bridge wasn't as impressive as I had expected, so I found my visit to the shrine more enjoyable. Of course, the shrine isn't very large either, but being surrounded by nature like this it exudes a unique and old-fashioned atmosphere, which made it look quite charming.
The nature is so enchanting

The real charm of Okutama lies in the Nippara Limestone Cave, but even on the way to get there, you can see such captivating nature.

Nippara Limestone Cave

The cave stretches for about 800 meters and is a famous tourist destination created by the erosion of limestone, attracting many Japanese visitors as well.
When I visited, there were even some Westerners, indicating that it's a more popular attraction than I had anticipated.
I was simply amazed by its endless charm.

I was simply amazed by its endless charm.

I thought there would be few people looking for it in the mountains, and I didn't have high expectations, but during this trip to Tokyo, I was once again amazed by its endless charm…
