Shikine-jima

Shikine-jima, 15 minutes by boat from Niijima. An island surrounded with coastal inlets. There are 4 areas for swimming, and big-game fishing is also popular. There are natural hot springs on the island, with mixed baths and free baths, too.

Day 1

Shikinejima Port

Shikinejima Port

I was taking photos as a painfully obvious tourist when I a passer -by asked me- "Why did you come here?" I said like "No special reason, I am just visiting for the first time", so he said "Oh, OK, please call me if you are free" and he gave me his number. It's like Dragon Quest.
La Mer Shikine

La Mer Shikine

It was already evening by the time I arrived. I am staying in "La Mer Shikine"Which served up a dinner that can only be described as sensational!! Red squid is delicious.

Day 2

Tomari beach

Tomari beach

Tomari beach, on the northern side of the island. As the photo reveals, a sandy beach spreads under a cliff and the inlet beautifully comes into view - prompting my frenzy of excitement!! My voice became shrill "It's the sea!!", prompting laughs and comments as they told me that I had been seeing the sea since yesterday.
Kanbiki Observatory

Kanbiki Observatory

The highest point on Shikine Island, which is relatively flat. I climbed up the few stairs and arrived. The gentle and strong curve of the Rias coastline is captivating. Blue sea....... It seems Mt. Fuji would even be visible, if it were clear... Everything jumping out looks richer when actually seen rather than just in the photo.
Jinata Onsen

Jinata Onsen

Shikine Island has three open-air baths, running 24 hours a day. Above all, Jinata Onsen has a key impact. It was named Jinata Onsen after the topography, resembling ground that had been slashed by a hatchet.
Jinata Onsen

Jinata Onsen

As you can see, the sea spread before my eyes!! It is directly connected to the sea by all appearances, so the water temperature changes as the tide rises and falls. So... it might be hot or not hot enough......in other words, it might be quite tricky. And not to mention, the only way back is by climbing, which makes it no easy task! Haha!
Ashitsuki Onsen

Ashitsuki Onsen

......It is an onsen!! You may wonder - what's the fuss, it's the sea - but it's actually a hot spring! Though it resembles a tide pool, pop your hand in and you will feel it is surprisingly warm.
Matsugashita Miyabiyu

Matsugashita Miyabiyu

This is an artificial onsen, made by drawing off water from Jinata Onsen, short of Ashitsuki Onsen and seems to be a go-to place for locals. It has parking a stone's throw away and it is easily accessible, with both a changing room and shower available! Plus a foot bath!
Strawberry field

Strawberry field

Mr. Shingo Aya, who brought me here, escaped from the shackles of white-collar working life a short while ago, moved to Shikine Island and started farming, where he currently engages in cultivating strawberries and rearing silky fowl. I did not expect to be picking strawberries in the Izu Islands in January!! It's warm Inside the plastic greenhouse. The tochiotome is delicious.
Silky fowl

Silky fowl

Next, he showed me the silky fowl. I had heard of silky fowl but still was unsure of what kind of bird it was. *Obviously, be careful from here birds! (Tentatively) Cute... Pure white and fluffy. Its flesh, bones and internal organs all seem to be black. Yuck!! Its face is also black. It has charm. It avoids all eye contact with me!! Haha.
An onsen tamago in Matsugashita Miyabiyu

An onsen tamago in Matsugashita Miyabiyu

I returned to the place I had left this morning. Miyabi no yu is open to the public free of charge and 24 hours day! Eggs soaked in onsen - which means = no way - yes - they are onsen tamagos!!! Cooking the egg of the silky fowl, which is delicious in the first place, in a hot spring, is bound to make it tasty, isn't it?! I can't wait for it.
Souvenir

Souvenir

I bought a souvenir. Put the soft and fluffy island laver on the rice, drip on a little soy sauce and enjoy - deliciously simple.

Day 3

Shikine Island Port

Shikine Island Port

They couldn't have been more helpful. They asked me to come again in summer. I agreed right away! This is the place to be in summer! Absolute heaven! Over summer season, you also have the option of a high-speed jet boat, which, if taken from Takeshiba Pier, will get you there in a nifty 2 hours and 20 minutes! How speedy!
