Shikine-jima

Shikine-jima, 15 minutes by boat from Niijima. An island surrounded with coastal inlets. There are 4 areas for swimming, and big-game fishing is also popular. There are natural hot springs on the island, with mixed baths and free baths, too.

Day 1

How to get to Shikine Island

How to get to Shikine Island

It takes about 10 hours and 30 minutes to get to Shikine Island on a large boat... It's supposed to be a short ride on a speedboat, but it wasn't running right now.
I guess it only runs during the peak summer season when there are a lot of visitors.
Restaurant on board

Restaurant on board

The boat stops at various islands and drops off passengers, and because it's quite large, there's a restaurant on one side of the boat, as well as showers, vending machines, and more. Of course, you have to pay for everything!
Welcome to Shikinejima

Welcome to Shikinejima

We originally went there for 2 nights and 1 day (effectively 2 days and 3 nights since you spend a day on the boat), and the day we actually arrived at the island was super cloudy, but it was raining and windy so the boat didn't leave and we ended up missing our flight from the neighboring island due to a late booking, so they added an extra day and showed us Shikinejima with its gorgeous skies instead! On the morning of the last day, I started taking photos positively, thinking that this is why I got one more day for anyway! Of course, I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the next schedule^^;;
The neighboring islands of the Izu Islands

The neighboring islands of the Izu Islands

Around the harbor where the ship stops, you can see the other islands of the Izu Islands...
There are quite a few uninhabited islands among them, but even if they are uninhabited, I wanted to visit them at least once due to their beauty.
The rental car service was good.

The rental car service was good.

First of all, the mother of the hostel came to pick me up at the harbor, so I went to the hostel, listened to their explanation, left my luggage, and went to rent a car!
However, the hospitality of the island was also felt here - they told us that we didn't need to fill up the gas tank as it was a provided service, and even though we rented it for 2 days and 1 night, they said we could bring it back the next morning because I was delayed for another day!
Tomari Beach

Tomari Beach

The photos are a mix of cloudy and sunny days because I took them a day apart, but I'll introduce them in the order I visited them first ^^.
Tomari Beach! As soon as I saw this, I realized why I came to this island, it was so pretty and I wanted to swim here in the summer!
Oura Beach

Oura Beach

Oura Beach was also really pretty, but it's a rocky beach, so it's more for walking and exploring than swimming.
There was also a mysterious rock that looked like an elephant's trunk. It was really beautiful...
If you come here just after the peak summer season and before it gets cold, you can enjoy the calm sea in a place where no one else is around~.
神引展望台 (かんびきてんぼうだい) Kanbikitenbowodai (Kambiki Lookout)

神引展望台 (かんびきてんぼうだい) Kanbikitenbowodai (Kambiki Lookout)

This spot is called Kanbikitenbowodai and is said to have a really beautiful view.
The water is so blue, isn't it?

The water is so blue, isn't it?

How many people expect to see such a wonderful view when traveling to Tokyo? How many people have actually seen it?
Probably few people who live in the city have come here, too... I feel blessed to be able to see, feel and introduce this beauty.
Shikine Island is a really small island, and it's great to explore it by bike.

Shikine Island is a really small island, and it's great to explore it by bike.

I walked around the island for a while, and the shopping streets were really small~.
Shikinejima is a really small island, and I thought it would be nice to explore it by bicycle! Of course, an electric bicycle~^^.
松ヶ下雅湯(まつがしたみやびゆ)Matsugashita Miyabiyu

Another thing that makes this island so charming is that there is an open-air bath! When you enter the open-air bath, you enter through a unique entrance~.
There is also a small changing room, so you may want to bring a towel and light clothing.
Ashitsuke Onsen

Ashitsuke Onsen

We saw two different types of open-air baths, one with ochre-colored water and the other with what looked like stagnant seawater. It's really rare to find a hot spring bath like this with a view of the open ocean, which adds to its charm.
Dinner at Shikinejima Accommodation

Dinner at Shikinejima Accommodation

The dinner visuals of the Shikinejima ryokan we visited during our trip to Tokyo were amazing.
The price was around 8,000 yen per person, but I didn't envy the ryokan kaiseki with expensive dinner visuals.

Day 2

How sad I was to leave...

How sad I was to leave...

I spent a week in Tokyo traveling from Okutama to Hinohara and Shikine Island, but I was still sad to leave...
I think I realized once again how much more Tokyo has to offer that I still need to discover.
The boat also passes through Niijima.

The boat also passes through Niijima.

When I was coming to the island by boat, it was midnight and I was asleep, so I didn't know, but after I was leaving, I realized the boat passed through Nijima
This place is also very famous, and you can visit it by high-speed ferry, airplane, etc. There are many beautiful attractions which was right next door.
Watching the sunset from the boat, we arrived as evening.

Watching the sunset from the boat, we arrived as evening.

Watching the sunset from the boat, it was evening when we arrived. While spending a long time on the boat was a bit tiring,
But on the other hand, it was possible to witness such magnificent scenery because we were on the boat! Plus, it seems we could save on transportation costs as well
