Shikine-jima

Shikine-jima, 15 minutes by boat from Niijima. An island surrounded with coastal inlets. There are 4 areas for swimming, and big-game fishing is also popular. There are natural hot springs on the island, with mixed baths and free baths, too.

Fall

The first day

Departure to Shikinejima Island

Departure to Shikinejima Island

We will take a boat from Tokyo to Shikinejima. We will board the large passenger ship "さるびあMaru" at Tokyo's "Takeshiba Kubashi" pier. It will depart at 10 pm and arrive at Shikinejima at 9 am the next morning.
Homestay hostel LA MER SHIKINE

Homestay hostel LA MER SHIKINE

After arriving at Shikinejima, we first went to the Homestay Hostel LA MER SHIKINE to drop off our luggage, sort out our equipment, and then set off.
Renting electric bike

Renting electric bike

This time we will rent electric bicycles to explore Shikinejima Island. The advantage of electric bicycles is that they are powered by electricity, and the intensity can be adjusted, making it easy to ride. It is not too strenuous even if you are riding uphill. I recommend using this method to get around the island. Shikin Island is not big, with only 500 residents on the entire island.
Takamori lighthouse

Takamori lighthouse

This lighthouse was built by a 75-year-old granny in 5 years for the safety of ship navigation. This lighthouse seems to represent the thoughts of the 500 residents of Shikin Island.
Takamori Lighthouse Observation Deck

From the observatory on the side of the lighthouse, you can have an infinite sea view, which is super beautiful! And you can see the hot springs on the other side.
Ishishirakawa Beach

Ishishirakawa Beach

Coming to Ishishirakawa Beach, the sea water is super clear. Just dive down and you will see the beautiful underwater scenery. Many Japanese people come here to swim in the water during the summer.
Lunch: Sun Valley

Lunch: Sun Valley

Went here to have a sumptuous lunch. The store also sells the local specialty milk pancakes here. I received one as a gift! So delicious!
Wellhead

Wellhead

The journey continued in the afternoon and we arrived at a special wellhead. During the island's development, residents had to travel to the coast daily to fetch water. Therefore, 20 people dedicated three years to gradually construct this wellhead, effectively solving the problem of obtaining water from distant places.
Matsugashita Miyabiyu

Matsugashita Miyabiyu

This is a natural hot spring. Unfortunately, the hot spring is temporarily closed due to the typhoon. Here you can enjoy the sea view while soaking in hot springs, and it's free. The temperature of the hot spring water will also change as the temperature of the sea water changes
