TAMASHIMA Instameet
TOKYO AKIRUNO Event Report

TAMASHIMA Instameet was held in Hachijojima and Okutama in 2017, and was a great success. It was held in Niijima and Akiruno in 2018. The "Akiruno" event was held on November 24th (Sat) and 25th (Sun), following the "Niijima" event that took place during the 3 days from October 6th (Sat) to the 8th (Mon). Here are some highlights from the event.

This event is aimed at experiencing and learning about "the wonderful nature of Tokyo in the immediate vicinity of Central Tokyo". In addition to taking photos of the beautiful landscapes, the participants were able to fully experience the charm of Akiruno through camping and interactions with the locals. As special guests we had "@moonlightice", a notable Japanese instagrammer with 500,000 followers worldwide, and "@aladyinlondon", who takes beautiful photos of landscapes from around the globe.

We were blessed with fine weather on the day of the event, and 37 people from 13 countries participated. We will show you how this event went, in which people from around the world were able to interact!

Akiruno Instameet started under a sunny and refreshing autumn day!
We were able to enjoy the charm of nature in Tokyo, from collecting red leaves and cultural experiences!

The participants gathered at Musashi-itsukaichi Station in Akiruno City, located about 60 minutes by train from the Central Tokyo, on a beautiful autumn day. A wide variety of participants gathered, with different nationalities, age, gender and so forth, and we took a commemorative photo at the opening ceremony! ! It is the start of the 2-day event!

Kotokuji with its big ginkgo trees is a perfect spot for taking pictures! The autumn leaves hiking course makes you wonder if you are really in Tokyo!

As you walk through the autumn leaves hiking course, participants shot various photos of the nature landscapes. Most notably, the big gingko trees of the Kotokuji Temple with a thatched-roof mountain gate was a masterpiece. Participants took pictures with each other and spent a pleasant time, with the leaves of the vividly colored ginkgo trees spreading over the background.

Arrived at the "Fukasawa Nature Village" campground. We held an exchange event while being surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves!

We arrived at the "Fukasawa Nature Village" campsite, which was the event venue and accommodation site. The surrounding autumn leaves were vividly colored, and the pleasant sound of the mountain streams were a joy to hear. When the cottage room arrangement was announced and the luggage was stored, it was time for lunch!
All of the participants got along well, and the chatter never stops.

Made "Mossarium“ (terrarium by using moss) and beeswax candles , polished gemstones and paper making.. We enjoyed a unique nature workshop that can only be experienced in Akiruno!

Here in Akiruno, there are various cultures and history rooted in the area. The local teachers kindly cooperated and the participants had a great time with the workshop.
The reservation for the program filled up right away! Everybody became completely immersed in their work, all completely losing track of time.

The BBQ started with everybody gathering around the campfire! The food tastes exceptional when surrounded by nature! ! !

Once the sun set, it was time for the main event - the BBQ! Everybody naturally had a smile on their face, enjoying the delicious meal with one another. There was a large campfire in the park, and Mr. Moonlightice lead a photography lecture. People showed the wonderful pictures that they took of Akiruno with one another, and learned techniques to taking photos!
After spending a wonderful evening, we returned to the cottage for chat time - the evening is just beginning.

Akiruno's great autumn leaves hiking course "Akikawa Valley".
The group photo at Ishibunebashi is a memory of a lifetime.

The second day was another fine autumn day, just as was the first day. There were some who warmed up with radio exercises in the crisp morning air.
We are headed for Ishibunebashi, Akiruno's representative hiking course! Along the valley the beautifully colored red and yellow leaves entertain the participants' eyes. The group photo at Ishibunebashi is one for the ages! We were able to take a great photo in which you can almost hear the cheerful voices of the participants!

Another theme of this event, "Akiruno's craftsmen" experience program! ! We experienced making soy sauce and udon noodles, and had a valuable cultural experience.

In Akiruno, the "craftsmen of Akiruno" who inherit the tradition of the land work to disseminate the local culture. With the cooperation of all such craftsmen, the participants experienced various cultures, from making soy sauce and handmade udon. We were able to spend valuable time doing things that cannot normally be experienced, carefully listening to the experts and taking photos.
