Shikine-jima

Shikine-jima, 15 minutes by boat from Niijima. An island surrounded with coastal inlets. There are 4 areas for swimming, and big-game fishing is also popular. There are natural hot springs on the island, with mixed baths and free baths, too.

The benefits of staying in a guesthouse.

The benefits of staying in a guesthouse.

Upon entering the dining room, the host told us that we were in luck as the neighboring guests had gone fishing, so they prepared extra dishes for us!The host skillfully crafted sashimi using a wooden stick, accompanied by ginger and spring onions on the side. It looked somewhat like the tuna and spring onion dish we usually have, but there was a noticeable difference in taste. The meat was more tender, and because it was freshly caught, it was truly fresh! The side dishes complemented the rice perfectly; we were truly blessed with such delectable food!

The second day

Tojinzu Castle

Tojinzu Castle

Tojinzu Castle is the inner desert of Shikinejima, the former crater of a volcano. I studied geography in middle school, but stepping foot on the edge of a dormant volcano crater at such close range for the first time was a unique experience. I even saw some beautiful stratified rocks!
Kanbiki Observation Deck

Kanbiki Observation Deck

Upon reaching the Kanbiki Observation Deck, you can enjoy panoramic views of Mount Fuji and the entire island. Visitors can even bring some food and sit down to enjoy lunch while gazing at the endless sea views. The gentle sea breeze helps keep the temperature comfortable, adding to the pleasant experience.
A true vacation

A true vacation

This trip has been very different from previous ones, where my visits to Japan were limited to shopping and eating sushi in Tokyo. Next time, I won't just stay in Tokyo. Instead, I might spend a night on a nearby island to get closer to nature.
