Four minutes from Takaosanguchi Station is a museum which you can visit before walking up the mountain or upon your return.
Here you will find a treasure-trove of Mount Takao’s
changing natural scenery through the four seasons.
Takao 599 Museum is named after the 599-meter elevation of Mount Takao. Here, you can enjoy several artistic exhibits depicting the bountiful natural beauty and diverse wildlife of Mount Takao.
The spacious museum includes exhibits featuring specimens of plants, insects, and other wildlife. A highlight of the museum is the exhibit of Mount Takao plants, which shows not only
the flowers but also the roots of the plants and the beauty of raw nature.
The video area includes a fascinating projection mapping display using stuffed animal specimens
mounted on a wall.The WOW visual design studio runs a 7-minute animated film depicting Takao’s four seasons. This film dynamically presents the many faces of Mount Takao, depicting
not only the mountain’s vivid nature but also its vibrant wildlife and images of the mountain during rainstorms and other natural events.
The Mount Takao art on show at the museum is one more way to appreciate the picturesque scenery of the area.
The museum includes a spacious area with tables and chairs where
visitors can relax while enjoying something from the café. The museum shop has a wide variety of original items themed on Mount Takao that make excellent gifts, so be sure to pay a
visit and look for your favorite items.
On sunny days, we also recommend relaxing on the open grass area in front of the museum.
